Profile
Pushpendra Singh is a Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), where he is also a founding faculty member. He has held major academic leadership roles at IIIT-Delhi, including Dean (Academic Affairs) and Dean (Innovation, Research, and Development). He received his Ph.D. in 2004 from Inria-Rennes, France, in the area of mobile computing. Prior to joining IIIT-Delhi, he worked at the University of Portsmouth, Newcastle University, and Inria-Rocquencourt. His research lies at the intersection of human–AI interaction, mobile systems and applications, middleware, FemTech, and ICT for Development, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, robust, and field-deployable socio-technical systems. His work combines core systems research with applied, impact-driven deployments, particularly in resource-constrained and real-world environments. A key focus of his research is translating academic innovation into practice, with several outcomes leading to industry transfer, start-ups, and deployed products. His technologies have been deployed in large-scale public-sector and government initiatives, including national programs such as the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
He was also appointed as the Nodal Officer by the Government of NCT of Delhi for the 181 Women-in-Distress Helpline, for which his team architected, developed, and deployed the complete software platform.
