Dr. Abhijit Mitra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi). He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi under the British Telecom Fellowship. His research spans over a decade in optical communication and networking, with expertise in multi-band optical networks, space division multiplexing, AI-assisted optical network management, quantum communication, and optical wireless communication technologies. He has published extensively in leading journals and conferences, including Proceedings of the IEEE, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, OFC, ECOC, and IEEE ANTS. He has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on several externally funded research projects supported by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), MeitY, DST, DRDO, and the National Science Foundation (NSF), USA. He was awarded the DST INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship (2017–2022), the British Council Professional Achievement Award (2019), and was selected for the Fulbright Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (USIEF) and the SPARKLE–Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND Programme, Ireland (not availed). In recognition of his contributions to optical communication and networking, he was elevated to IEEE Senior Member in 2026. He has served in leadership roles for several IEEE Communications Society conferences, including as Technical Program Committee Chair for IEEE ANTS 2025, Tutorial Chair for IEEE ANTS 2026, and will serve as Technical Program Committee Chair for IEEE HPSR 2029.
