Srikanta Bedathur to head a Max Planck Partner Group at IIIT-Delhi

The nomination of Srikanta Bedathur, Assistant Professor at IIIT-Delhi, to head the Max Planck Partner Group with Prof. Gerhard Weikum of Max Planck Institute of Informatics, has been accepted jointly by the Max Planck Society of Germany and the Department of Science and Technology, India. He will establish and head the group that will work on various facets of mining and searching over large-scale graphs such as the social networks, knowledge-graphs and Linked Open Data (LOD) graphs.

Max Planck Partner Groups can be established in institutes worldwide, to work in close collaboration with a Max Planck Institute on certain high-priority research areas. Each year a few outstanding junior scientists with earlier affiliation with an MPI are awarded this in order to lead a well-equipped high-capacity research laboratory in his/her home country. By 2011, there were totally 41 Partner Groups established across the world, out of which 10 were in India. The Partner Groups in India will be funded with a total EURO 20,000 p.a. by the Max Planck Society and a matching grant from the Department of Science and Technology, India, initially for 3 years and upto 5 years.
