DISHA goes beta on DIMTS website

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

It started as a competition between two teams of undergraduate students trying to make the same software to help the people of Delhi with their commute using public transportation - DTC buses and Delhi Metro. The two teams combined their effort together to produce a prototype system that immediately caught the attention of both our honorable Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit as well as the organization Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS) Limited. With more accurate and updated route information for DTC buses provided by DIMTS and further technology changes, the team of undergraduates put together a robust system that is now available for beta release by DIMTS on their website - http://www.dimts.in/.

The journey planning system rightly named Disha (meaning "direction") is the first such online system that integrates both the route information from multiple DTC routes as well as up to date information about the Delhi Metro together to provide the most optimal route across any destination in the city.

Key undergraduate members involved in the project are Aman Gupta, Ashish Gupta, Gaurav and Gaurav Saluja with help from Aman Sahni, Pratyush Tripathi, Rohit Kishore, Siddhartha Srivastava and Stuti Ajmani (all third year students). All through the guidance was provided by Kuldeep Yadav and the faculty members namely Pankaj Jalote, Vinayak Naik, Pushpendra Singh and Amarjeet Singh.
