Campus Life

IIIT-Delhi currently has its transit campus in the the library building in NSIT Campus in Dwarka. The institute is spread over two floors and includes classrooms, labs, faculty offices and a library. Both floors are wi-fi enabled so students can work (or play) from anywhere within the institute. All labs have high speed internet, and are equipped with top-of-the-line PCs; some of the labs are open till late at night for students. The institute building also houses pool and table tennis facilities, along with a small canteen and a small but valuable library. Our library has a wide selection of books which is constantly expanded with books suggested by students and faculty.

With clusters of faculty rooms, labs, the library and the canteen, the campus has created an interactive and lively culture inside the institute which encourages an open yet closely-knit environment. There is also a Faculty Mentor system where each student is assigned a faculty member as a mentor who they can approach at any time regarding any issue.

IIIT-Delhi students willing to stay on campus are put up in the NSIT hostels. The NSIT campus has a few cafes and small shops amidst lush greenery. It also has extensive sports facilities which include basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, a cricket field and a football field. Our students have been given generous access to all these facilities. We also have a music room where we have equipments such as electric guitars, a synthesizer and other equipment chosen by the music enthusiasts. Performances by the music club, usually a few times a year, are widely applauded by everyone, including the faculty members whose generosity with claps and praise easily beats the same for marks.

IIIT-Delhi is looking forward to moving to a permanent campus in Okhla. Phase-I of this modern campus is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2012. The campus has been planned to be smart, active and connected. Along with having a R&D block, an academic block, a library building and hostels, the campus will also house a student center. The latter is planned to have a food court, a mess, place for indoor games, and rooms for various student activities. The new campus will carry forward IIIT-Delhi's culture of being a fun and open place for learning and collaboration.
